Birdwood Soccer Club was established circa 1979 / 1980 under long term organisers David Binns & Eric Keeping, the strip was very basic, Maroon T shirts with BIRDWOOD written in white across the front and white shorts.

The club name was changed to Torrens Valley Soccer Club on 19th March 1985. click here

Initial training sessions took place behind the old primary school on Shannon Street. As the club become more established the club moved to the oval behind the High School, then, as years moved on training took place under the lights at the football oval, Birdwood Park.

Paul Binns, son of founder member David and a member of the very first training session recalls:

"I remember as a kid playing war games in the pine forest which is now the soccer ground. I remember my dad going to countless meetings  with the council to  get approval to clear the forest to help fund the ground.

Once all the earth works were completed I remember countless weekends where all the kids and parents spent hours walking the newly grassed pitch picking up stones as they kept rising out off the ground.

This made the ground unsafe and for ages it was thought that we would never play a game on it but eventually the stones got less and less."
