Seniors 2010 The Torrens Valley Rams senior side has begun 2010 with six solid wins in a row and look to be turning over a new leaf in what has been a dysfunctional past couple of seasons. The season so far is proving to be a stark contrast to last years results and also considering the difficulties during pre-season with the lack of numbers.
It is safe to assume that looking at the issues the senior side faced in pre-season that no one would’ve expected such a change in fortune. A team that was on the brink of collapse early 2010 now second on the table and the only unbeaten side in the league thus far.
The retention of players in the Adelaide Hills has always been a difficult task due to the limited population and the domination of Australian Rules in the area. However this season has been the beginning of a developing pathway from under 16’s to seniors. Several juniors have stepped to the challenge and brought much enthusiasm and determination with them and are taking to the rigours of senior football with relative ease.
The addition of centre-half Craig Bibby and central mid-fielder Chris Smith have added much needed experience and composure to their respective positions, whilst Jesse Ryan, David Kucha and David Dau have been regular goal scorers for the Rams this season.
Morale is exceptionally high at this stage of the season with results in tough games going our way. In order to maintain this morale we need to ensure we stay focused and take each game one at a time.
It is vital that we continue to raise the profile of the Torrens Valley Soccer Club so we can offer our club as a legitimate alternative to Mount Barker United and Hahndorf Soccer Club. Be sure to keep an eye on the Rams’ progress in the Courier out each Wednesday.
The Rams are looking to the future and will continue to offer opportunities to young players and welcome experienced players to our club. Should anyone be interested in joining our club for the 2011 season please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are confident that we can add valuable depth to our squad and field a reserves side which we haven’t been able to field since 2008.
Jeremy Byrnes Senior Captain.
